“2、GMAT考试在表示某人有某种能力做某事的意思,最佳答案的选择依据是 can do>be able to>has(have) ability to do>has(have)acapability of doing. . .(其中“>”指“优先于”,有can do就不用含有be able to do的选项,在选项中不含有can do时,再找有be able to的选项,依此类推)。 ”
在The Elements of Style一书中,有这样一段描述:
There were a great number of dead leaves lying on the ground. | Dead leaves covered the ground. |
At dawn the crowing of a rooster could be heard. | The cock's crow came with dawn. |
The reason he left college was that his health became impaired. | Failing health compelled him to leave college. |
It was not long before she was very sorry that she had said what she had. | She soon repented her words. |
Note, in the examples above, that when a sentence is made stronger, it usually becomes shorter. Thus, brevity is a by-product of vigor.
Brevity is a by-product of vigor.
can do之所以是优选的表达在于简洁有效;
ability to do和capability of doing之间没有优劣之分,关键考习惯用语;
